21/04/04 - Website Update, Progress Report & TweakDB3 Beta Release
A year without an update, what can I say - I was busy. Anyway I have started to
update my website (again), in order to bring it into Compliance with the XHTML1.0 Spec,
and in my opinion looks quite a bit better anyway.
Hopefully, you didn't get too attached to the concept screenshot shown last year,
as that GUI has been scrapped in favour of the new more managable and infinitely more
practical one you can see below.
The good news however is that the first public beta release of
TweakDB3 is now available. Two distributions are available for download,
a Lite Version, and a Full Version which contains the needed VB Runtimes, Skin & Plugin
Development Information, Additional Skins and Plugins. It is a BETA version so don't expect
miracles from it, but it is far more stable and reliable than v2. As usual comments and suggestions
are more than welcome, but please read the help files before filing bug reports

New Features include:
- Skin Support - as demonstrated by the screenshot, TweakDB now fully supports a
skinnable user interface
- Spyware and Unauthorised Software Removal - another new addition to TweakDB, is the
inclusion of a fully featured Spyware Removal tool, currently able to find over 200 items,
including not just Adware, Keyloggers, and Data Miners, but also Backdoors, Trojans, Worms
and Viruses
- Plugin Support - provides yet another useful addition to TweakDB, enabling users
to apply their own tweaks easily
- Improved Reliability - thanks to a new Registry engine, TweakDB is more reliable
than ever before
21/04/04 - Other News
Due to the vast number of people who e-mailed me about version 2.2 and its
infamous Run-time error '13': Type mismatch I have dug out the 2.2 code
and provided a new fixed exe (2.2a), which hopefully should work. As with the 2.2
release itself, this update is unsupported and is simply intended to fill the gap
until TweakDB3 reaches a more complete state (and this time I'm not going
to make any guesses at when it is going to be finished - look what happened last
time). I am not going to provide a full version, and unfortunately because of
space limitations have removed the last full release, therefore in order to make
use of this update, you need to either:-
- a) head over to www.majorgeeks.com and download the full 2.2 install from there,
and then extract the updated EXE to the TweakDB folder, or
- b) providing you have either Windows XP or the Visual Basic 6 runtimes installed
- simply extract and run the 2.2a EXE
Additionally, I have been working on some of my other projects,
including:-
- 2 Counter-Strike Maps (DBMansion & DBNukeAssault) - which can be downloaded here
